Field notes / sort weight-care offers
What if the offer is a weight medicine?
Get the ingredient and medicine name before comparing a weight-care offer with something discussed for IV therapy.
Which familiar names might come up?
The records checked September 26, 2026 showed weight-care approvals for semaglutide (Wegovy). That check also included tirzepatide (Zepbound) for weight management.
The proposed use still matters. Ask the person treating you which product they mean and what the evidence says about that use.
Is a medicine prepared to order just a generic?
Compounded means a pharmacy, doctor or registered facility prepares the medicine to order.
A generic medicine is a copy of a brand-name drug with its own approval.
The United States had no marketable approved generic for either semaglutide or tirzepatide at the September 26, 2026 check.
Compounded products were not FDA-approved products under the rules checked on that date.
Ask anyone using the word generic to say which approved product they mean. Keep the answer separate from a description of compounding.
Does a shortage still explain a copy?
The September 26, 2026 recheck found neither semaglutide injection nor tirzepatide on FDA's national shortage list.
FDA distinguishes that national shortage status from a local pharmacy running out of stock.
Federal rules checked September 26, 2026 still limited regular or large-scale copying. For a named patient, a prescriber could decide that a change made a significant difference from the ready-made drug.
Does adding a vitamin settle the difference?
Adding a vitamin may still leave a semaglutide injection classed as a copy, FDA said in guidance rechecked September 26, 2026. The comparison includes the working ingredient, strength and how the medicine enters the body, such as by injection.
Ask the prescriber what difference the extra ingredient makes for your care and where that reason is written down.

Compare named products and documented reasons. Treat the words generic, shortage and custom as questions to resolve.
